A very interesting article about Google, their workplace, the culture and why people leave.
You would have to be living on a desert island not to have heard by now about Google's workplaces, which have been awarded top honors by nearly every available yardstick of corporate culture.
And what's not to love? The perks, from free gourmet lunches to swimming spas and childcare, are unmatched by Google's competitors; they frequently host educational panels with people like Barack Obama, as well as tech training sessions. Employees are encouraged to allocate 20 percent of their time to personal creative endeavors.
This is a very interesting article about why people leave Google for greener pastures (yes they do exist).
I have found it amusing over the past ten years when people talk about the culture of these companies (the second wave of this happened in the dot com era of the late 90's) and how hip and modern they are.
In the early 80's we were doing the same thing in the computer industry as it was growing fast.
That last line about having to leave Google to succeed at Google rang a bell....The same is said about Harvad, to get tenure at Harvard, you need to leave Harvard for an offer of tenure elsewhere.
I'm happy to see I'm not the only person on earth who reads eWeek. Thanks Space!
